René Weterings (1978) is an enthusiastic underwater photographer. He is married to Cindy, is the father of Isis and Rowan and lives in Geertruidenberg – the Netherlands.
His passions are his family, diving, snorkeling, photographing and writing stories about his experiences under water.
He regularly writes (online) articles for the magazinesDuikeninbeeld and Onderwatensport.
In addition, René likes to share his photos and knowledge with others or he inspires underwater photographers to improve themselves.
Together with his wife Cindy, he started diving in September 2005 during a holiday on the Canary Island of Lanzarote.
He quickly got the taste and took a compact camera on the next diving trips. Underwater photography grew into an increasingly important part of his dives, his camerasets grew with him.
In 2012, René started with his first Micro Four Thirds system camera from Olympus and still takes photographs with this system up to today.
In the meantime upgrading to Olympus OM-D E-M1 Mark III in a Nauticam underwater house with 2 Sea & Sea YS-D3II flash units with the Dome diffusers and snoots.
Since 2013, René has been participating in the Open Dutch underwater photography championship and with some regularity also in the Open Belgian Championship.
Every year he won a medal in one of the categories, now more than 40 pieces. In 2015, René was crowned open Belgian underwater photography champion in the Masters categorie.
In 2018 he became Dutch underwater photography Champion for the first time. In 2019, René participated in the CMAS underwater photography World Championships on Tenerife and won a silver medal in the “wide angle” category.
At the beginning of 2022 he won gold at the green camera competition in the category “Abstract”.
In the meantime he can proudly look back on 5x the title Dutch Champion underwater photography in a row, he won the latter in 2022 with the Sea & Sea YS-D3II Flitsers.

René Weterings (1978) is een enthousiast onderwaterfotograaf. Hij is getrouwd met Cindy, is vader van Isis en Rowan en woont in Geertruidenberg – Nederland.
Zijn passies zijn het gezin, duiken, snorkelen, fotograferen en het schrijven van verhalen over zijn belevenissen in het water.
Hij schrijft regelmatig (online) artikelen voor o.a. DuikeninBeeld en Onderwatersport magazine.
Daarnaast deelt René zijn foto’s en kennis graag met anderen of enthousiasmeert hij onderwaterfotografen om zichzelf te verbeteren.
Samen met zijn vrouw Cindy startte hij met duiken in september 2005 tijdens een vakantie op het Canarische eiland Lanzarote. Hij had de smaak snel te pakken en nam een compact camera mee op de volgende duikreizen.
Onderwaterfotografie groeide uit tot een steeds belangrijker onderdeel van zijn duiken, zijn camerasets groeide met hem mee.
In 2012 startte René met zijn eerste Micro Four Thirds systeemcamera van Olympus en fotografeert tot op de dag van vandaag nog steeds met dat systeem.
Inmiddels is dat de Olympus OM-D E-M1 mark III in een Nauticam onderwaterhuis met 2 Sea&Sea YS-D3II flitsers met de dome diffusers en snoots.
Sinds 2013 neemt René deel aan het Open Nederlands Kampioenschap onderwaterfotografie en met enige regelmaat ook aan het Open Belgisch Kampioenschap.
Elk jaar won hij wel een medaille in een van de categorieën, inmiddels meer dan 40 stuks. In 2015 werd René gekroond tot Open Belgisch Kampioen Onderwaterfotografie bij de Masters.
In 2018 werd hij voor de eerste keer Nederlands Kampioen Onderwaterfotografie bij de Masters. In 2019 nam René deel aan het WK Onderwaterfotografie op Tenerife en won daar een zilveren medaille in de categorie ‘groothoek’.
Begin 2022 won hij goud bij de Groene Camera de categorie ‘abstract’.
Inmiddels kan hij trots terugkijken op 5x de titel Nederlands Kampioen Onderwaterfotografie op rij, de laatste won hij in 2022 met de Sea &Sea YS-D3II flitsers.

René Weterings (1978) est un photographe sous-marin enthousiaste. Il est marié à Cindy, est le père de Isis et de Rowan et vit à Geertruidenberg – Pays Bas.
Ses passions sont la famille, la plongée, la plongée en apnée, la photographie et l’écriture d’histoires sur ses expériences dans l’eau.
Il écrit régulièrement des articles (en ligne) pour les magazines Duikeninbeeld et Onderwatensport.
De plus, René aime partager ses photos et ses connaissances avec les autres ou il inspire les photographes sous-marins à s’améliorer.
Avec sa femme Cindy, il a commencé à plonger en septembre 2005 pendant des vacances sur l’île de Lanzarote.
Il a rapidement eu le goût et a pris une caméra compacte lors des prochains voyages de plongée.
La photographie sous-marine est devenue une partie de plus en plus importante de ses plongées, ses camérases ont grandi avec lui.
En 2012, René a commencé son premier appareil photo System Micro Four Thirds d’Olympus et photographie toujours ce système à ce jour.
Entre-temps, c’est l’Olympus OM-D E-M1 Mark III dans une maison sous-marine Nauticam avec 2 unités Flash Sea & Sea YS-D3II avec les diffuseurs et les riches du dôme qu’il utilise.
Depuis 2013, René participe au Championnat de Pays Bas de photographie sous-marine et avec une certaine régularité également au championnat de Belgique.
Chaque année, il a remporté une médaille dans l’une des catégories, maintenant plus de 40 pièces. En 2015, René a été couronné Champion de la photographie sous-marine au Championnat de Belgique.
En 2018, il est devenu Champion de Pays Bas, categorie Masters, pour la première fois.
En 2019, René a participé à la Coupe du monde de photographie sous-marine à Tenerife et a remporté une médaille d’argent dans la catégorie “grand angle”.
Au début de 2022, il a remporté la medaille d’or dans la compétition ‘la caméra verte’ dans la catégorie “abstracte”.
Jusqu’aujourdhui il a gagné 5 fois le titre Champion de Pays Bas de photographie, il a remporté ce dernier en 2022 utilisant les flashes Sea & Sea YS-D3II.
