Originally from Nice and a lover of the Mediterranean Sea since early childhood, Greg Lecoeur became interested in marine biology and diving at a very young age.
After studying business and joining the family company, he launched his own company.
When he wasn’t working, he would return to the depths, diving and developing his underwater imaging techniques.
At the age of 32, with a diving instructor’s certificate in his pocket, he sold his company and lived his dream: a year around the world with his camera.
The adventure began in the Galapagos, then continued to Ecuador, Florida, the Bahamas, Honduras, Yucatán, California, Hawaii, and British Columbia.
Upon his return, Lecoeur’s insights and unique perspective were featured in French and international publications, and he received his first award: “Golden Diver” at the Aquatic Festival in 2015.
Since then, Lecoeur has dedicated all his time to his passion for the marine world.
Deeply committed to the preservation of the oceans, his documentation and expeditions contribute to an in-depth knowledge of underwater biodiversity and the enhancement of our planet’s environmental heritage.
Lecoeur was National Geographic’s Photographer of the Year in 2016 for his spectacular shot of the sardine run and has been honored with many other international awards, including the recent Underwater Photographer of the Year in 2020 for his capturing of crabeater seals in the Antarctic.
His images and stories are published regularly around the world.
Lecoeur is a photojournalist, a committed artist and the author of two books (REQUINS: guide de l’interaction, 2017; and ANTARCTICA, 2020). Lecoeur tells the oceans’ stories in order to touch people and raise awareness about the preservation of underwater ecosystems.

Oorspronkelijk van Nice en een liefhebber van de Middellandse Zee sinds de vroege jeugd, raakte Greg Lecoeur geïnteresseerd in mariene biologie en duiken op zeer jonge leeftijd.
Na zijn studies en het aan de slag gaan in het familiebedrijf, lanceerde hij zijn eigen bedrijf.
Telkens wanneer mogelijk, keerde hij terug naar de onderwaterwereld, het duiken en het ontwikkelen van zijn onderwaterbeeldvormingstechnieken.
Op 32 -jarige leeftijd, met een duikinstructeur diploma op zak, verkocht hij zijn bedrijf en leefde zijn droom: een jaar reizen over de hele wereld met zijn camera.
Het avontuur begon in de Galápagos en ging toen verder naar Ecuador, Florida, de Bahama’s, Honduras, Yucatan, Californië, Hawaii en Brits Columbia.
Bij zijn terugkeer waren de inzichten en het unieke perspectief van Lecoeur te zien in Franse en internationale publicaties, en hij ontving zijn eerste prijs: “The Golden Diver” op het Wereld Festival voor onderwaterbeelden te Antibes, Frankrijk in 2015.
Sindsdien heeft Lecoeur al zijn tijd besteed aan zijn passie voor de mariene wereld.
Diep toegewijd aan het behoud van de oceanen, zijn documentatie en expedities dragen bij aan een diepgaande kennis van de onderwater biodiversiteit en de verbetering van het milieu erfgoed van onze planeet.
Lecoeur was de fotograaf van het jaar van ‘National Geographic’ in 2016 voor zijn spectaculaire schot van de ‘Sardine Run’ en is geëerd met vele andere internationale prijzen, waaronder recent onderwaterfotograaf van het jaar in 2020 met zijn foto’s van van krabetende zeehonden op Antarctica.
Zijn afbeeldingen en verhalen worden regelmatig over de hele wereld gepubliceerd.
Lecoeur is een fotojournalist, een toegewijde kunstenaar en de auteur van twee boeken (Requins: Guide de l’Interaction, 2017; en Antarctica, 2020).
Lecoeur vertelt de verhalen van de Oceanen om mensen te raken en het bewustzijn te vergroten over het behoud van onderwaterecosystemen.

Originaire de Nice et amoureux de la mer Méditerranée depuis son enfance, Greg Lecoeur développe très jeune son intérêt pour la biologie marine et l’exploration.
Après des études commerciales et avoir rejoint la société familiale, il lance sa propre entreprise.
Mais quand il ne travaille pas, il retrouve les profondeurs, enchaîne les niveaux de plongées et développe ses techniques de prises d’images sous-marine.
À 32 ans, certificat d’instructeur de plongée en poche, il vend sa société et réalise son rêve : une année autour du monde avec son appareil photo.
L’aventure commence aux Galápagos, puis continue en Equateur, en Floride, aux Bahamas, au Honduras, au Yucatán, en Californie, à Hawaii, en Colombie-Britannique, …
À son retour, il partage ses impressions et son regard unique dans la presse française et internationale, et remporte son premier prix : « Plongeur d’or » au Festival Mondial de l’Image Sous-marine, en 2015.
Depuis, Greg Lecoeur dédie tout son temps à sa passion pour le monde marin.
Viscéralement engagé dans la préservation des océans, ses reportages et expéditions oeuvrent à une connaissance approfondie de la biodiversité sous-marine et à une mise en valeur du patrimoine naturel de notre planète.
Photographe de l’Année du National Géographic en 2016 pour son spectaculaire cliché du « Sardine Run », il a été honoré de nombreux autres titres internationaux, jusqu’au récent Underwater photographer of the Year en 2020, pour sa photographie des phoques crabiers en Antarctique.
Ses images et reportages sont régulièrement publiés aux quatre coins de la planète.
